Slick was recorded live at Suite G in Seattle WA in October of 2003. The Combustion Collective's music is all improvised - spontaneously composed and preformed on the fly. There are no overdubs and the hooks you hear are not previously rehearsed.
Chris DeLaurenti in The Stranger observed, "The dilemma: how to combine brainy, jazz-driven improvisation over engaging, funky grooves without sounding like perpetually grinning smooth-jazz sellouts or a second-rate jam band that hawks handblown glass pipes on the side. The Combustion Collective vaults over this hurdle by coupling the vibe of Dennis Coffey's disco-funk classic "Scorpio" with the sinuous twists and turns of Miles Davis' music circa Big Fun. "
Our music is heavily funk focused. There is a solid groove that is the foundation and elements of jazz, rock, world, disco and blues are layered on to make a unique sound.
Now we ask you - Can you dig it?
