notes
John Conahan is a Philadelphia-based piano singer/songwriter. He has been a clinician at Eastman School of Music, performed with Ravi Coltrane, worked extensively as a prepared piano artist and studied Extended Vocal Techniques with composer George Crumb. Drawing on many of these areas, John has fashioned a technique that is driven by concentrated and highly-dramatic singing, as well as charming piano sound. His music has been used by A&E Biography, The Travel Channel and VH1. He can also been seen as a sideman, arrangeer and studio musician for many local and national artists.
A diverse background in choral conducting and avant-garde improvisation enabled Conahan to cast his net wide when looking for the perfect blend of collaborators for the group.
The band includes Eric Hastings (Anna Coogan & north19, Tania Alexandra, Justice on a Budget) on drums and brothers Geoff (Brian Ferry, Tony C. & the Truth) & George (Slim Man, Beata) Hazelrigg on bass and guitar, respectively.
"John Conahan has the solemnity of Peter Gabriel, the versatility of Martin Sexton and the angularity of Nina Simone.”
