I'm not sure if I'm more impressed with this thinking-man's metal musical attack or with the band itself. Yes, I've heard these talented guys live and have had the pleasure to chat with them. This is not your typical heavy metal band. These guys are not only progressive musicians, but they're also progressive thinkers. Sort of like Ozzy gets a brain transplant. Enough about the band, let's talk about The Conquest, a song that has replaced White Zombie's More Human Than Human as my favorite heavy metal song. Close your eyes and imagine you're on a out-of control, run-away roller coaster. The Conquest begins with Kevin Boenning's opening riff with bassist Michael Passen thumping along for the ride. Drummer extraordinaire Brian Dobbs then kicks things into overdrive. Just as you think the ride is slowing down, vocalist Mike Newberry lets you know there will be no such nonsense. Newberry's growls and howls re-energize the ride,sending us on a relentless head-pounding journey. Again, you think the ride is ending until Passen's bass bottoms it up a notch. Guitarist Boenning jumps in with some amazing fuzz tones, and off we go again. Remember, this is a run-away ride ... there's no geetin' off! This musical coaster is running full-throttle, twisting and turning with no end in sight.
