Former Nanaimo musician returns to her roots and tells her tales on new CD

Former Nanaimo resident, now living in Edmonton, Connie Gogo has always expressed her emotions through song and she's excited to finally release her feelings into the public with her debut CD.
Another Chick Singer is a heartfelt collection of nine country folk songs written and performed by Gogo, and it will be available in select stores and online Sept. 1.
Sitting by the Nanaimo River, the carefree singer jokes about how the album has been 31 years in the making.
At a young age, she remembers turning her emotions into words and belting out her collaborations in front of her family and friends.
Gogo comes from a long line of musical talent, which includes musical parents, brother and blues guitarist David Gogo and cousin Paul Gogo of Trooper fame.
Gogo wanted to carve a path all of her own and formed a band and performed all over Vancouver Island in her 20s.
Even though it has been six years since she walked up on stage, the independent musician has never lost sight of her goals and is extremely delighted to release a CD she can call her own.
The vibrant redhead grew up on her family's Christmas tree farm on Nanaimo Lakes Road, to which she attributes her dedication to song writing and singing.
"When you're a little kid on a Christmas tree farm, what else are you going to do," Gogo said with a laugh.
She poured all her thoughts and emotions, whatever they may be, into every song and performed for anyone willing to sit and listen.
There was never a doubt in her mind that her childhood "rock star performances" would eventually lead her into a musical career.
Continual encouragement from "literally dozens of fans" has helped Gogo pursue her dream.
The mother of three moved to Alberta nearly five years ago with her husband, but the music followed her.
With the help of guitarist Desmond Son and Miles Jackson of Ma-Me-o Studio, Gogo weaved together an emotional roller coaster of nine old and new hits.
The song "360" is about a blue-haired girl's struggle with addiction, who recovers and becomes beautiful and free, to a heartfelt silly song entitled "Good Grandma," to the punk love hit "Watching you Sleep."
"It's a fun little collection, which ranges from comedy to trauma, life and love and there's even a song for my Grandma," said Gogo.
"There's already another album in the works, which is more about the environment and the planet, but this first one is just purely personal experiences. I actually thought about issuing Kleenex with the CD."
Next summer Gogo expects to take her talent on the road again and perform between her home in the prairies and Nanaimo.
