Album Notes

Honolulu-born singer/songwriter, Connie Kissinger, offers her musical legacy. KISS is an inspiration of Hawaii. A selection of island themes…...from tropical fruit to Kona coffee, barefoot swing to sailing, seashells to starry nights. A lush, exotic arrangement of ‘Love Song from Mutiny On the Bounty’ showcases the artist's range and vocal discipline. 'Kona Coffee Song' (a KISS original) delivers an electric caffeine high set to calypso beat. Kissinger plays seductress with a sultry 'Papaya'. Her lively composition - 'Island to Island - is a humorous comparison of life in Hawaii -vs- Manhattan (where she sojourned for 7 years). For native-style classic pop, ukulele captures the ocean's hypnotic rhythm on Christopher Cross’s ‘Sailing’. Bidding a fond aloha --‘The Queen’s Prayer’ for a poignant classical closing.

Ms. Kissinger is known in the islands as a vocalist of varied styles. In keeping with her true musical legacy, KISS embraces exotica, Latin, pop, jazz, rock, and classic Hawaiian. Perhaps it’s the artist's blood – a blend of Chinese, Hawaiian, German, Irish, Dutch, Scottish, and Czech – to prefer diversity. And after all, KISS was created by a ‘wahine’ (Hawaiian for 'woman'), so moods will change.

KISS lyrics are sprinkled with Hawaiian words and phrases. You will find simple translations on the insert fold-out. If you are a stranger to the colloquial ‘pidgin English’ the artist playfully flaunts on ‘Island’……hang loose and no worry, beef curry. It’s all in fun! And if KISS makes you smile, Connie will consider her project well-done.
