Album Notes

CoolBlueExit, the Musical Vision of James V. Schappert Returns with a Very Special CD. While the Sound of CoolBlueExit has been described as Romantic, Moody and Reflective. also a cross between David Bowie meets Savage Garden with a taste of Depeche Mode. or as one Fan recently wrote-"Spandau Ballet on Xanax, if you will. Better than that though, there is a mood sensibility to the music here, danceable and easily digestible."

Winners is a musical journey, not unlike the journeys that we face in our everyday lives. First we search for Hope, or the hope of that One True Love. (Track 1. Collide)

On the second track "Heavens Not In It" Is a place that many of us have come to where we find ourselves in a situation that we probably should not have been in to begin with.

"In The End" is a song that deals with the loss of that special someone and yet offers some hope...In The End.

"The Darkest Sky" is where we have descended to the darkest places that we have ever seen in our lives. It can also be the place that we learn the most about the truth about situations, people around us and the truth about ourselves. If we are fortunate enough to survive through the darkest sky, everything will change for the better!

The musical journey then continues to the title track "Winners". This is the place that I thought not all that long ago I would never see. A place where you can stand back and see the truth for what it is and be able to pick ourselves up from the ashes and be able to help others around us become Winners!

Track 6 "Surround Me" is a song about finding ones faith again-long forgotten memories of a much better time, "Where Love and Peace Surround Me".

The last song-"You Are Beautiful" is a very special song, written not only as a song that could be sung to your lover, but also written for those who feel like they are so far down that they will never see up again. A song to let you know that no matter who you are or how bad things seem that someone somewhere believes in you, loves and adores you and really sees that You Are Beautiful!

Winners has been a very special project for me personally. My hope is that this CD speaks to you as much as it has to me. Sometimes it just helps to know that someone else has lived through the darkest of times and to know that better times are ahead, that you will come out of it a Winner!

Best Wishes,
James V. Schappert/CoolBlueExit

NORTHEASTERN, Pa. - Hypnotic, melancholic, brooding, surreal. These are all perfect words to describe the music of CoolBlueExit. CoolBlueExit is the brainchild of Falls based musician James Schappert. Schappert's time as both a performer and audio engineer come into play when talking about his CoolBlueExit project. As James says, he wanted to create music that was both focused and interesting; check and check. Listening to the music, it's evident that the composer knows a little something about writing and turning the knobs too. CoolBlueExit's latest offering, an EP titled Winners, treads a fine line between experimental electro-pop music and full on trance inducing hypnotica. It's really something that must be experienced. If ever there was music that can make you become unconscious of your surroundings and take you to a whole new reality, this is it. From the first track on Winners called Collide, it's not hard to think of David Bowie's more experimental moments. James' voice has got a certain Bowie-esque quality, with a mixture of early 80's British new wave vocal style; The Psychedelic Furs' Richard Butler also comes to mind. Collide has a certain lush beauty that transcends the experimental nature of the music. And while the music might be considered experimental, the lyrics on the Winners EP are filled with simple, timeless images of love found and lost, redemption, and explorations of the soul. The next track, Heaven's Not In It, forays into more of a minor key, darker territory. The song's a lament of a relationship that is just going through the motions, looking back and seeing things weren't really as happy as they seemed. From there is In the End, with a haunting, whispy keyboard intro. This song has a solid groove over the sparse instrumentation; actually, a solid little groove prevails over the entire album. James Schappert has a knack for programming a drum loop. The Darkest Sky follows, taking a more aggressive tone both beat-wise and vocally. This one features some great atmospheric keyboard playing to create a fine sonic landscape. The album's title track is next, it's a dark classical sounding piece with only voice accompanied by keyboard/piano. The music is in contrast to the lyric content on this one; the lyrics convey a positive uplifting sentiment: "We are winners, we light up the night sky." This song was actually featured on a compilation album for a 9/11 tribute. A lively, melodic track called Surround Me is up next here. The song conjures up images of a dream-like state, almost sensual. Closing out the album is You Are Beautiful, perhaps the most straight-up pop in this collection of songs. An ode to a special loved one, this track is vibrant in its use of layered keyboards. The Winners EP sees James Schappert and CoolBlueExit finding a niche and not being afraid to create music that's passionate and intriguing. There are no boundaries in the music of CoolBlueExit, which is why it will likely appeal to a broad range of tastes. CoolBlueExit recalls a time when British synth-based music ruled MTV; circa 1981-82, but ultimately this music is fresh and vibrant. It's something different than today's mainstream, and it offers a different perspective. It lets the listener take a step back from what's currently in vogue in today's music scene and clear your mind for a bit. In music, it's great to be able to push the reset button every once in a while. Visit the world of James Schappert at www.CoolBlueExit.com and experience this music for yourself.
