Corey Action was blessed with the ability to teach and choreograph and began teaching at the tender age of seven. However, Action\'s technical training began at Skyline High in Oakland where he studied jazz dance, modern dance, and stage production. Over the years he has utilized many different types of music in bringing hip-hop to well-known gyms, respected dance studios and public schools. He has always been able to transform beginning dancers into dynamic dancers with his skillful choreography. He realized this was indeed a gift from God, which could not be overlooked.
Action is not only dancing his way into the hearts of many fans and supporters of hip-hop, but he is also singing, writing and acting his way in as well. Action started singing in school and church choirs at the age of twelve and moved onto rapping soon after. A local rap group name Funky Fresh Inc. spotted Action at a school dance and with no hesitation hired Action to dance giving him the nickname \"C-Style.\"
Action has choreographed for a diverse group of artist\'s such as Korean super star Lee Seung Chul, Hip Hop Youngster Mac Mall, Latin dance diva Angelina and Filipino pop sensation Jocelyn Enriquez. He has traveled the globe including Brazil, Japan, Italy, Canada and the Philippines working as a producer, costume designer, casting agent, make-up consultant, choreographer and dancer. Action has worked to develop many up and coming artists. Producer-song writer Dwayne Wiggins of Tony Toni Tone and producer-song writer Robbie Nevel hired Action to work on many of the acts that they produce. Action has even choreographed for the internationally known Korean Dance Company Nool, with award winning choreographer Ko Chun-Sik. Usher has also recruited Action to Judge the “Usher New Look Camp” youth entertainer program. Action is definitely a man of many trades and one of the most promising entertainers in the business.
Action was awarded to internationally recognized Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Best Performance by a Company 2005/2006 with Action’s amazing dance company New Style Motherlode. Action is featured in the History Book Series of Images of America’s latest issue “Black Artists in Oakland”. Establishing his Artistry as one of Oakland CA finest Artist. Action along with business partner and dear friend Teela Shine-Ross opened the Bay Area’s 1st HIP HOP dance studio in an upscale district in Oakland, properly named NEW STYLE MOTHERLODE STUDIO. The studio opened in 2001 and has been growing successfully with clients and students from around the world, who come to learn from some of the best instructors in the San Francisco Bay Area. The studio offers Hip Hop, Jazz, Afro Cuban, Ballet Technique, Break-Dancing, Modern and West African. The Studio houses the New Style Motherlode Dance Company, Diamond Dance Company, and Sparkle Dance Team.
