Album Notes

Corey Jackson is a Dallas, Texas based singer-songwriter who has been writing songs on the piano and guitar since he was twelve and has been recording them on some form of machine since the age of fourteen. “When I first started writing songs, I used to record myself playing acoustic guitar onto a tape recorder and then record myself playing a second instrument such as the bass onto ANOTHER tape recorder as the previous recorder played nearby. I followed this formula several times with me singing and playing other instruments until I had a full sounding recording. My Dad found out what I had been doing, told me that what I had discovered was called “ping-ponging” in the sound engineering realm and had sympathy on me enough to buy me a four-track cassette recorder.”

His influences include The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Danny Elfman, Erik Satie, Django Reinhardt, Raymond Scott, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Vince Guaraldi. His current album Mars Hill was written in 2004 and was recorded in 2005. It incorporates several musical elements including sacred classical forms, Indian ragas and Celtic music and focuses lyrically on such subjects as 1st century Christian history, Soviet history, early 20th century Irish history and the realm of medicine/psychiatry vs. faith. He wrote and arranged all of the songs on the record with the exception of Jesus Is a Dying Bedmaker, which is traditional.
