THIS IS PRIMO STUFF, BABY!!! A new address (he's bought a farm in Pennsylvania), a grand concert piano, rhapsodies, and new CD, "Cornsmoke" has made some interesting changes in his life, and his music! "Musical Philanthropy" is an aural expression of those changes. It is a totally different direction for this philanthropic flute player and his musical mentor, Steve Brown. Brown's keyboard collaborations create a sound, which brings to mind R Carlos Nikai's early work with Peter Kater. It is unlike anything Cornsmoke has produced before. The compositions have a maturity and depth that are, at once, distinctive, and at the same time, familiar. Accessible, but certainly not commonplace. Steve Brown's piano and synthesizers provide a wonderful landscape in which Cornsmoke's Native Amercan flute playing can project powerful musical images. The phrasings are interesting and "fresh". The music is wonderful! Although all the cuts on this album are outstanding, stand-outs include "Landscapes"(the opening cut) "Musician Magician"(A sophisticated blend of magic, piano and flute) and "Cross Culture Blues"(blues? Yes, blues - very interesting!) And here is Cornsmoke's inclusion of "Over the Rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz. It is one of THE most heartfelt moving renditions of the song you will ever experience! His latest new album is exactly what we've come to expect from this talented musician. "Musical Philanthropy" is Gary "Cornsmoke" LaCorte's fifth album. It is the fifth installment of a musical journey that continues to get better and better with each and every album! One can hardly ask for more. ....WHISPERING WIND MAGAZINE.
....Cornsmoke has eclipsed the masses of Native flute
players with this CD and has put himself light-years
ahead to stand alone in the annals of this genre of
music. ....MUSICIANS FORUM MAGAZINE.
....you've heard the rest, now hear the BEST! From the
pinnacle of the mountain of Native American flute
music players, be it traditional or contempory.
Cornsmoke's "Musical Philanthropy" has no comparison.
The symbiosis of Cornsmoke's flutes and the concert
piano of Steve Brown is like nothing before and nothing
to come after. This CD is an eternal masterpiece that
will outshine the efforts of all other flute-piano
compilations past-present-future rolled into one!

CREATIVE! CREATIVE! CREATIVE! ...oh, and did I mention creative? Cornsmoke puts the flute to the wind like a painter puts the brush to the canvas in this CD. Once again Cornsmoke steps front and center to show that Native American flute playing doesn't have to sound like the chicken that laid the metaphysical egg. What a fresh breath of sound to taste! An awesome jazz-blues fusion cut in "Cross Culture Blues" Steve Brown lays the hot licks down in this one on his amazing concert grand. and an old standby in "Over the Rainbow" shows amazingly just how expressive this pair can get. A great follow up to "Comet Tales", their first. Even though the Native American flute is just a stick with holes in it, ...this is one stick that is definetly not stuck in the mud of same-sounding Native flute music players. Cornsmoke, already firmly rooted as one of Native Flute playings finest, along with Steve Brown have explosively become Legend within a not so widely advertised musical window. Perhaps the blinds are drawn back a little tighter with this piece of wow-mama-whats-goin-on-here kind a stuff Cornsmoke's puttin out! Its been a long time coming and it will be a long time gone before there's a match to this gem. TEN thumbs up for this diamond!!

A truely magical and relaxing combination of Native American flute and piano.
author: D. Dzikowski
This CD takes you on a magical journey that can definitely relax and calm you after a stressful day. Some of my favorite pieces are as follows: Song #3 Musician Magician in which the soft warm and flowing piano and flute thoroughly revived and relaxed me, not to mention that the multiple flute sounds that provide an awesome complexity with a relaxing simplicity that really makes this an awesome piece! Song #4 Cross Culture Blues is A very jazzy blues piece which is a unique mix of the non-traditional Native American piano fused with the native spirit of Cornsmoke's flute. This is a very interesting and relaxing combination that transports you to a far off piano bar where the only liquor served is Cornsmoke's wonderful flute and who would need anything more! Song #5 Traveler is another awesome piece in which Cornsmoke's flowing flute takes you traveling on a road of warm piano accompaniment that has a most calming and surreal feeling. There are many more wonderful pieces on this CD that one should experience for themselves so make sure you purchase a copy today!

I really enjoy the music of Cornsmoke, Musical Philanthropy.
It is a very professionally done cd, with a great combination of traditional Native American flute and contemporary Jazz piano. Great background music while at my computer. The last piece "Over the Rainbow" is outstanding.
