Album Notes

Cosmic Granola was a concept started in 2001 in a college laundry room. Over the years as many as 7 musicians comprised CG but in today three remain as The Cosmic Granola Elite. With great diversity in musical backgrounds, Cosmic Granola has come together to create a new form of rock and roll (yet to be named). Be prepared to groove to the granolas original blues, folk, funk, reggae, bluegrass, and of course rock and roll. With the release of their first CD in 2006, the boys of funky town were excited to get there scond CD released 'an Onion Layers'.
Cosmic Granola has had the pleasure on sharing the stage with Pilot, Planet Smashers, Boy, Burt Neilson Band, Eliiot Brood, Cuff the Duke, The Dudes, Ill Scarlett, Beatiful Girls, Peter Elkas, Craig Cardiff, Great Lake Swimmers, Band of Owls and many more.
Bottom line . . . Cosmic Granola is not to be missed. Once you get a taste of the Granola you will want more and more!

Northern Rocks Music Magazine

An Onion’s Layers is a flawless album, filled with originality that will help pave the way for new popular music in years to come. Although Cosmic Granola is not well know and plays the smallest clubs they still have a very big sound worthy of many ears. At times the feeling of The White Stripes newest album “Icky Thump” come to mind and not for the weird sounds but for the ability to play any style of music and make it their own. Cosmic Granola have managed to incorporate the sounds of funk, jazz, blues, reggae, folk, ska, country & rock, without ever making you think that a song didn’t belong. The album begins with a very strong upbeat song called “Drying Up”, easily the favourite of the album. Unfortunately the song painfully reminds you of an old disco classic “Funky Town” by Lipps Inc, but it shouldn’t be held against them as this is just the opener for an amazing album. The album has amazing transitions from one song to the next with exclusion of the sound of people talking as the album leads into Downtown Café which is like a slap in the face because you have to wait 4 seconds for the fun to pick up again. Half way through the album you hit an excellent pair of moody, emotional blues inspired songs. “Nate’s Blues” which is worthy of the Mississippi Delta and “Broken E” which would not be recommended for a good or bad mood because it will make you feel depressed. Any song that can alter your mood has accomplished what music was made for, even if the mood is an undesirable one. The album winds down with the bottom slice of this multi-tempo sandwich including “Emo Princess” & “Lapps”. The perfect ending to this album returning to a faster tempo and the funk/jazz sound that started the album off, squishing between it the slower tempo blues songs and country/folk of “Downtown Café” and “My Childhood”.

Most Origional CD of my life!
author: Natalie Simms
I saw these guys play a show a week ago and they blew my mind! Insane live show! I picked up the CD of course and it blew my mind even further. This is the most eclectic, gender-bending CD I have ever heard. I did some reading on these guys and I find out they are indie! The fact that these guys are indie and have done everything on their own is amazing! These guys deserve your ears! Absolutly recommend!
