Album Notes
Surreality is a Psychedelic Rock work which whirls the listener into a lucid state of consciousness. If you are a fan of Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Rush or any of the other psychedelic/progressive bands than you will love this. Cosmic Owl creates a unique form of Psychedelic Rock which seeks to blend vintage sounds and techniques with modern instrumentation and poetic lyrics. Words & Music are by Johnathon Pendall (aka. Cosmic Owl). The guitar heard on the album is an Ibanez PF series Concert Electric-Acoustic. The acoustic on "Transcendence" is an off bran but the sound is crisp and clear. The drums, bass and keyboards were played on with the Korg M50 Workstation and the Alesis Micron provided the synths on "1:02."

Pendall began work on the album in January of 2012. It was completed at the beginning of May. Cosmic has been recording music since he was in high school. He has several albums, but he considers this his first fully developed piece. "I started playing the drums in the school band when I was in 5th grade. Later I taught myself how to play the piano, guitar and bass. Mostly due to an overactive mind and an agonizing state of perpetual boredom. In college I took music theory. That opened my eyes to a whole new realm of possibilities."

The artwork for the album was made by Pendall in PhotoShop. "It was originally a picture I'd taken of the sun lurking behind a light cover of clouds. The wonder of modern technology is that anyone can make visual works of art, even if they could not do so other wise,"

John's close friend Seth Robbins sang backing vocals on the track Sail via Divinoure and Flight of the Owl was originally released on an early album by Pendall, "It was the best song off of, 'Nebula,' I couldn't let it fall into the vault."

Cosmic performs live at local bars in Northern Illinois. He has also worked as an announcer on an AM radio station, is attending college for a degree in Psychology, has released two poetry books under the name J.L. Pendall and has a cat named Zoe.
