Album Notes

Transcending old school fusion and new age progressive metal stylings, COSMOSQUAD truly live up to their galactic moniker. Three years after their acclaimed eponymous debut album, this L.A.-based triumvirate is ready to unleash its sophomore release, "Squadrophenia", and make another out-of-this-world statement.

Retaining the multidimensional approach the band developed on their debut album, COSMOSQUAD have successfully managed to explore new musical territory and expand their sonic parameters on "Squadrophenia". Displays of upbeat, funky outbursts give way to dark, hypnotic grooves, spastic madness meets ethereal beauty, and African tribal flavors intersect with melodic flurries to complete a perfectly balanced mosaic of shadow and light.

COSMOSQUAD are that rare three-pronged constellation of stellar musicianship, unique songwriting and forward thinking attitude that allows for great musical things to happen. "Squadrophenia" is bound to establish the Kollman / Sparks / Gaalaas alliance as one of the Front-runners of the New Millennium hard fusion movement for years to come.

Jeff Kollman-guitar, Barry Sparks-bass, shane gaalaas-drums

This is truly a really good live-album with heavy and groovy songs with beautiful melodies on top (and with some nice odd-rhythm patterns too, one must add)... Some of the basics in the music are (kinda) similar to the heavy/groovy music of the (Swedish) band PLANKTON, their (70s inspired) instrumental compositions have a "I'm home at last" feel all over, and oddly enough CDBaby are actually selling all of their albums and one of their best albums is "Rare Tracks 1998-2005", so check 'em out too! Well, let's get back to Cosmosquad and their guitarist Jeff Kollman, his playing reminds me of a (somewhat) mix of Joel Hoekstra's beautiful style and Joe Bonamassa's heavy ditto... So folks, this is a "must buy"!!! Stay proggy!

Excellent musicians are playing jazz/rock/fusion/progressive music in an outstanding way. One of the best LIVE albums I've heard this year. The guitar player are awesome, and so is the rest of the band. If you like instrumental progrock/fusion - GET THIS CD! Also check out the studio albums from Cosmosquad. This is just GREAT!
