Album Notes

Happy Hour is Cotton Jenny’s latest recording, packaged beautifully, with artwork by Kristian Hargis (www.kristianhargis.com). This is our first recording with Arturo Diaz, our new drummer, whom we smother with love and afftection due to his amazing ability to hold us together while we fall apart. Cotton Jenny is fronted by me, Jennifer Faust- I write the ditties and also play acoustic and electric guitar on some tracks. Fred Smith is the real-deal axe slinger, and Tim Acock (aka Big Root) and his upright bass complete the band. The recording was done live, on 1.5” analog tape, by Mike Coykendall (he has also recorded M.Ward, Beth Orton, Bright Eyes and many other extremely talented musicians, lucky us!).

A year ago, I was involved in recording a self-titled cd (also recorded by Mike Coykendall), produced by Christian Hurd: Jennifer Faust/ Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board, available right here on cdbaby. At that point, some songs which were Cotton Jenny songs became Jennifer Faust songs, and so Cotton Jenny’s sound was refined to the more jazz and blues-based numbers, with the singer-songwriter tunes going to the Faust project. At the time it was a painful process due to the loss of material for Cotton Jenny, but it has proven to be a positive move, and Cotton Jenny is having a ton of fun keeping things swinging. So here is our new-and-improved, swinging and slightly raunchy sound- enjoy!
