Press Release
Couch Flambeau Releases Anthology CD

January, 2004

For years, the fans have been asking us to release our early material on CD. Finally, Couch Flambeau guitarist/vocalist Jay Tiller, the last defender of Fort Analog, has caved. Therefore, we are now proud to release "I Did a Power Slide in the Taco Stand."

Couch Flambeau's "I Did a Power Slide in the Taco Stand" chronicles the band's music from 1982 to 2001. The anthology is lovingly mastered for the HDCD format, but will play brilliantly on standard CD players as well. It includes studio material, live performances, as well as some rarities. Spanning the period from 1982's cassette-only "Curiosity Rocks" through an on-air radio performance in May 2001, "I Did a Power Slide in the Taco Stand" is the quintessential overview of Couch Flambeau to the present time.

Couch Flambeau's first release, the cassette-only "Curiosity Rocks", was duplicated one at a time on home cassette decks while the band was known as the Couch Potatoes. Surprisingly, it sold staggering numbers and garnered many positive word of mouth reviews from the national underground.

The second release was the ultra rare debut LP "Mammal Insect Marriage" on Ludwig Van Ear records. It sold out immediately, quickly becoming a collector's item, and forcing a cassette-only pairing with Curiosity Rocks untitled "Rock with Your Sock On."

Their third work, "The Day the Music Died" was recognized in Spin Magazine as one of the top 80 albums of the 80's by Forced Exposure / MOJO hipster scribe Byron Coley.

1989's "Ghostride," is a landmark in post-post-punk artistry (it's really good). Many consider this work to be Couch Flambeau's "Revolver".

Demand for the Couch Flambeau back catalog continued to grow, with global requests being mailed in almost monthly.

Songs from the band's still available 1998 celebrated self-titled CD "Couch Flambeau" are represented on "I Did a Power Slide in the Taco Stand" by rare live recordings.

Heavy champions of Couch Flambeau include:

* Page and Plant producer Steve Albini
* Conflict Magazine Publisher Gerard Cosloy
* Trouser Press Co-Founder / Uber Critic Ira Robbins, who wrote the best article about Cheap Trick EVER.

"I Did a Power Slide in the Taco Stand" is available directly from Couch Flambeau and will soon be available at selected record stores and on-line at http://www.CDBaby.com.

"I Did a Power Slide in the Taco Stand" is the latest in a series of recordings which have been recorded, marketed, and distributed by Couch Flambeau. For more information, catalog, sample clips, gear info, and other pertinent facts, check the band's web page:

I did a power slide...
author: frances
I first heard C/F in 1987 with "We'll Go Thru the Windshield.." and "The Zoo is Cool". The siong were on a tape a friend made for me. I just loved it! But years go by and things slip your mind. Thank God for the internet! All these years later, I've found their site and got a CD full of wonderfully twisted and silly tunes! These guys are great!

Memories of a glorious punk past
author: Tracy Blase
I was immediately transported back in time to the first C/F cassette. The "weird" kid at school bought one for me. I wanted to be the "weird" kid. He had an eclectic style that made me jealous. On to C/F vinyl for me! Over the years, time and space have absorbed my original purchases so this compilation filled my cravings. The problem I have is that I now want ALL C/F (including recorded shows). I saw them once - somewhere in Milwaukee - during an altered state of my life. That show altered my life in a positive way. This is feelgood music that is virgin-tight. Give C/F a chance and you will get sucked in. Reminds me of the Violent Femmes but funnier.

Great collection from the dark punk geniuses from Milwaukee
author: Charles Rathmann
I think it was about 1985 that I first was exposed to Couch Flambeau on the cheesy cassettes that were circulating on the college scene at that time. We were sitting around drinking awful beer and laughing ourselves onto the floor over this stuff. So much of music is all about the band members trying to prove their hipness -- whereas these guys are obviously just trying to get some comic and musical catharsis in that infectious way and succeeding. This collection does have some of the old classics that got us to shoot beer through our nose (Mobile Home, You Must Be From Cudahy and The Zoo is Cool in particular). I'll have to hunt down other releases to get Where's the Girl With the Big Forehead, Curtains For You, etc. It is interesting to hear the increased level of musicianship (probably not deliberately cultivated but there nonetheless) in the more recent recordings like My Girlfriend's Band. The more recent material here has a different character, a bit more sophisticated in structure and not as herky-jerky in performance, but that genuine Milwaukee edge is still undeniably there. This stuff still makes sense to me and is intensely lucid and funny, while most of the dreck I listened to in college sounds like a bunch of wanking to me now (Al DiMeola, anyone?). This stuff stands the test of time and annoys my wife. It is brilliant.

Great Music With Laugh Out Loud Funny Lyrics
author: Xrayspex
This is an awesome release. It spans the first three brilliant releases with many bonus tracks. Couch Flambeau's music has always been hilarious. One of the few bands to have me laughing out loud. They never fail to cheer me up. What often gets overlooked though is their music and the fact that the lyrics are not only damn funny, but insightful. The catchy, slash and burn music is invigorating and lines like, "Some people sink and some people swim" are as good as "Gonna buy a broken big wheel and put it in front of my mobile home", in my opinion. This release is not perfect though. As with any collection it leaves off prime material, a lot of prime material. I would have much rather had the original releases, especially since my awesome collection of their albums was stolen. I mean where is "The Girl With The Big Forehead", "Curtains For You", "Life's Rough", "Zak Zigurat 'n' Farley Jordan", "We're Not So Smart", and "Think Twice" to name a few. Please release another Compilation with the rest of a brilliant catalog. In the meantime I will appreciate this awesome collection.
