This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! At the very dawn of 2005 James Brown, Patti Smith and the MC5, while having their weekly bowling match, were bandnapped by the Mahavishnu Orchestra at gunpoint (yes, gunpoint I tell you!). They threw them into a room with Beatles' music blarin' in the background and forced 'em (remember the gunpoint now) to write a boatload of tunes with them.
In mid January 2005, on the music heavy streets of Deetroit, a shoeless, beat-keeping, test-your-click-track-to-him, bangin' drummer John Turnage, along with a bass-slappin'. stick-master Glenn Poorman, and a fingers-flyin' guitarist Dan Holmes, met up with Julie Marcos - a voice large enuf to make a totally micless stadium vibrate like a, well, like a 5-speed vibrator stuck on five.
Or, in other words...
Coup Detroit (koo deh-twa) - a lot of rock, a lot of funk, alternative enuf, a chick who can sing!
Or, in still other words more to the point and plainer yet...
Coup Detroit - an incendiary emulsion of rock, paper scissors invaginated in prime numbers!

Funky, intelligent Detroit Rock!
author: Tim Harrison
This is a CD of SERIOUS music! Coup Detroit isn't out to follow trends on "War of the Raptors", their latest release. I get the feeling this band is sincere with their sound. The music is sophisticated yet raw. It hits you in the brain AND the gut. They have a SOUND! Their OWN sound! That is very rare these days. With guitar, bass/Stick, drums, and voice these Detroiters lay out some sweet grooves punctuated with wah guitar solos, some clean Stick action and a solid
beat. Throw in some angst-ridden lead vocals by a woman done wrong and it makes for one fine listen. My favorite song would have to be "Pigpen". It's somewhat laid-back compared to the rest of the CD, but the lyrics complement the music perfectly. The sound quality is first rate and, honestly, I've had this CD spinning everyday since I've gotten it. Let's hear some more!
