Album Notes

Simple and Distorted is a very fitting title to this powerful CD from Courtney Fairchild. She has the voice of an old sould and the lyrics on all songs speak of long experiences and emotional persuasions.

The consistency of the CD is that it is a moving tale of words and wisdom with a bit of wit thrown in. You feel as though you are listening to a friend. And it reminds one of those long ago pre-Jewel days when the poems were not some much great tag lines as they were great stories. You get the feeling that there still just might be a place in the rock and roll bodega for a little acoustic quiet soulfulness. This doesn't rock gently into the night with her dazzling level of momement from one song to the next.

The first song "Constant Chords" is one of the memorable tracks, listening to it you can feel the power of the singer behind the words. Courtney is a well-seasoned musician and songstress and this comes through in the light touches you find in some of these songs. There is a vaguely whistful element to "Constant Chords" and yet it is still a fine opening track to introduce us to her world.

What follows is "Simply Gone" and though the song can be somewhat sad in a way, the lyrics have a certain honesty and tenderness to them. This track is really a stellar example of Courtney's talents as a singer. All of the music on this CD works for Ms. Fairchild and beckons the listener to stop and listen with full heart throttle.

This CD is certainly the right way to open what is sure to be a long and successful musical career. With the powerful songs of "Alice" and "Common Ground" along with "Moving" you feel as though you have moved to the position of a studious audience member__one whose ear was waiting for just the right note. In Ms. Fairchild's voice, we definitely find it.

Is 5 stars all you got? This cd is a great one. As a matter of fact, it is one of my favorites when I want to get away from the same ol' same ol' of mainstream pop. Easy to listen to, hard to forget. I bought it when she was in Austin at "Gaby and Mo's" So what I wanna know is WHEN IS SHE COMING BACK???

This CD represents the great work that Courtney Fairchild is capable of. Her voice is moving and easy to listen to. Having heard her play many times before, it is great to hear her on a CD, with great backup artists. Buy this CD, and you will not be disappointed. I know that I was not...but then, I was Courtney's high school choir director!

Beautiful music for the searching and hopeful
author: James Hargrave

The music is plaintive and elegant. There's a taste and style to the words and the playing that is rare in any form of music today. At the same time you can be decieved by what's being sent into your ears. Possibly Japan at first listen sounds like a throwaway pop track, a good one, but a pop track nonetheless. On further listening however, there's a depth unbecoming of a true throwaway pop track and what you realize you've got on your hands is a hidden pop gem. A rare thing to come across these days. From Constant Chords to Moving, these are six tracks that you won't soon shuffle off your heart or you mind. The playing across the board is way above par. Whether it's Courtney's studied, intricate playing or the deliberate and inspired support of Sally Semrad, John Wood or Brady Mosher, you're going to be hard pressed to find a better played record anywhere. Aside from her own musicianship, Courtney's surrounded by an incredible and talented roster of supporting players, egging her on. Courtney's singing on this record is evocative and revealing, but also, again, plaintive and elegant. "Simple and Distorted" seems to be, probably, Courtney's wake up call to the world. "I'm here, I'm singing, get used to it." Get used to it. Learn the words and sing along because Courtney Fairchild is going to be here for a long time.
