Album Notes

Quirky country rockers COWPOKE hail from AUSTRALIA. 'The Pokers' believe we are here for a good time, not a long time. Life is short, sweet and to be savoured, and their music reflects this.

'HOW WOULD JOHN?' was released for the 2004 Australian Federal Election. It satirizes the incumbent government and Prime Minister John Howard, via a number of events in the years preceding, including the 'Tampa Crisis' and Australia's involvment in the Iraq War.

The first radio single and video clip from their full length album POKIN' 'ROUND, Fool, quickly earned COWPOKE the reputation as the 'good time guys' of Australian country music with a sound that is fresh, edgy and bursting with enthusiasm.

COWPOKE are "a band who sing about being husbands and dads and of being men but remaining boys” pretty much nailing it on the head. Fans have also quickly picked up on the album, with about 400 enthusiastic supporters packing the Mittagong RSL for the official launch.

Reviewers have been expansive about the band’s album Pokin’ ‘Round.
• "Every now and then a group emerges whose light seems to shine justa bit stronger than those surrounding them." (Bundaberg Guardian)
• "A debut album that is all about having fun. A bright positive album tat is sure to be a winner ... upbeat ... cheeky ... down-to-earth ... raw honesty ... with a healthy dose of humour.' (Tweed Daily News)
• "Bright and upbeat ... a very fine debut CD ... I didn't know whether to laugh or duck for cover." (Country Capital News)
