Album Notes

John Cox is the son of a quarryman and a piano - guitar - fiddle playing mother. Born and raised in Chico Texas (population 800) In high school, John studied trumpet and fiddle but, after discovering Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, he was sold on guitar.
John's early bands toured throughout Texas but, had little more to sustain themselves than guitars and fiery ambition. Sometimes a man has to loose himself before he can find his true self. And John dove head first into the process of loosing himself. While attending college, he delved into eastern mysticism and narrowly escaped the clutches of a cult. Finally, he returned to Chico, married his childhood sweetheart Sandee, and started a Bible study group. This was the first small step on a life long walk with Christ that grows daily for John, Sandee, and their six children.

After moving to Nashville, John's talent as a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, and performer became evident. He recorded the critically acclaimed CD titled "Sunny Day" and hit the road supporting Petra. John presented himself for what he is; a man in love with God and family, possessing a timeless musical and artistic sensibility. The audiences respond to his heartfelt performances and open, honest ministry.
John's new CD "Sanctuary" is musically compelling, intense, hard edged acoustic rock; Matchbox 20 meets Train meets Led Zeppelin. The lyrics are searching, encouraging and uplifting. They spring from John's deep sense of intimacy and love of Christ; something with which people can connect. The songs sneak up on you and gently capture your heart. "Sanctuary" is the beautifully simple, authentic, guitar driven stuff of real life. It is John Cox; an artist who has found himself and is fighting to create his slot not find one.

Live is Amazing!

Just heard John Cox play at the Bash on the Farm, Garner, Ia. I was moved at the precision of his lyrics and how God used him to get my attention. The minute I returned home I bought this CD online. It has been playing since then and I find the layers of his lyrics very personal, vulnerable and honest - very refreshing and reflective. What a gift God has given this man. Hope you make your way back here again soon. Please do an unplugged version, you and your guitar were alive on Saturday night.

Great Stuff.....especially if you were already a fan

I first heard of John Cox in the summer of 1997 and the recording I heard back then I have never been able to trace down. I really wish I could find that old recording of his "John Cox And The Balance." If anyone reading this might know where I could find a copy I would be most appreciative - bgilbreath@yahoo.com "Sanctuary" is a new recording except for a few tracks that were released on previous albums. I am glad he included the track "80 Years" here. It is a great song. "Sanctuary" as a whole seems to be a slight departure from his rockier "Sunny Day" from a few years ago and is more inline with his last album "80 years."
