Pure cascading melodies of Native American Flute and poetic keyboards create songs that are like fine watercolor paintings on this first CD from Coyotes in the Orchard. The music is introspective and peaceful. This is music for going within, for dreaming.
Crossing the Battlefield, the first track, is melancholy and beautiful. The notes of the flute are pure - silver gleaming against the sustaining dark texture of the keyboards.
Warriors Prayers features the flute alone. The notes rise in clear tones the way prayers rise in the cool gathering light of dawn.
Song for Sensei is one of the loveliest songs on the CD. The piano and flute spin a melody that moves like the ebb of water.
54th Street Reservation Blues is a light-hearted tip to the blues - imagine Native American Flute blowin' the blues!
Native American Ken Lopez crafts the traditional flutes he plays. An artist and musician, Ken is a world traveler and Vietnam Veteran. He has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, and at the University of Hawaii in a cultural exchange with Hawaiians and Maori, among others. He performs across the country and in Central and South America helping to promote cultural exchange between other tribal peoples.
From the beginning it was all about the music, fresh and spontaneous like the sound of running water over stones. Ruston Slager is an extraordinary improvisational musician, a surfer and an artist. He has the rare gift of creating spontaneous music. Already a stand alone artist making his own music when Ken and Ruston met, it was clear that creating music was something they were going to do together, and it turned into a great first CD.

Sensei tells a wonderful story. All the songs are so good but Native Voices has a special place in my heart. I'm looking forward to the next CD from these two great artists.

I love the nature sounds woven throughout the tracks. The songs are rich and complex, soothing but not boring. Receives much positive feedback from my yoga classes...

A great remedy for calming children!!!
author: E. Schotts
I played this CD in my classroom of 4th graders. It was amazing to see how calm they became. They settled down and became more focused on their work. Excellent, soothing music. :)
