This record is a collection of songs that span a wide period of time and come from many different experiences. There are three live tracks, recorded at three different shows from the last couple of years. There are two new original tracks that I recorded myself in my apartment in Northampton, MA. There is a cover song, first recorded in the studio with a full band in 2005 and finished in 2006. And there is a new version of an old song. The timeframe in which these songs were written spans from 1999 to 2008 (or 1973 to 2008, if you count when Bob Dylan wrote the chorus for Wagon Wheel). These disparate pieces are now united into a single work. In short, this record is something of a chimera.

So beautiful. I especially like the new song with the prelude and Hold it Together. Just what I needed to satisfy my obsession.

Beautiful - yet again

Breath-taking, once again.
With Chris Pureka, there is so much emotion wound into each song, each chorus, each and every little sound... From "California" (LOVE that chorus!), to the revamped 'classics' (the additional layer contributed by the piano on Swann Song is beautiful - sadly, could have done without the back up vocals), to the crowd-pleasing, up-tempo cover of Wagon Wheel, this is another amazing collection that easily finds itself in my player repeating from beginning to end to beginning again.
There are moments when one might liken Pureka to a tiny bird -- one would be tempted to scoop her up, offer protection and shower her with TLC -- but it is clear that the little bird will (and has) become stronger for any pain endured. Smart, crafty, and immensely talented, this bird has wings, and will not be held back.
