John Craigie stays true to the essence of folk music, and the traditions of the seminal writers of our past century. With his timeless melodies, and insightful lyrics, interspersed with witty storytelling, his songs take many poetic turns before they bring you back home. His themes range from social commentary, to personal empowerment, political satire, and modern love. He writes, sings, and plays for the people. With all this behind him he steps forward into the neo-folk genre.
For this project (Daddy Longlegs) John wanted to push folk music to the edge, by creating an album with as many styles as seemed possible and still staying in the vein of his mentors (Greg Brown, Dan Bern, Mason Jennings, Ani Difranco, Gillian Welch etc....)
To put it simply, this is what happens when a folk singer listens to Radiohead, Wilco, The Flaming Lips, and The White Stripes, and then decides to make an album.

I liked it!
author: Cassie
This new cd is awesome! If you liked Second Grade Awakening and I always ---ed you, you'll love this one. It's not as simple as I always ----ed you, more in the vein of Second Grade Awakening, there are more instruments, which gives it a livelier sound. Some funny songs, some rocking songs, and some sweet songs, I couldn't even pick a favorite, they're all so good.
