A Walk on the Mild Side
This is my new CD. If you like straight-ahead jazz, especially a mix of standards and originals, you may well enjoy this one. As well as my usual antics on guitar(and bass on one track), you'll hear another most able guitarist(who also donates an original to the proceedings)plus an amazing keyboardist, and several fine bassists and drummers.
As well as being a mix of standards and originals, this CD is also a combination of live gigs(3)and studio sessions(2), the first of my jazz CDs to have live performances--just never got around to it... If there's a theme in here, it's that all the cuts are some kind of trio: guitar, bass & drums; guitar, guitar & bass; guitar, keyboard & drums.
The cuts from December 30, 2006 are with my regular working trio(since January of '06, doing our first gig on 1/27: Mozart's birthday, for what it's worth), and we were kinda shooting to do a live CD. As it turned out, the 3 cuts here(plus maybe 3 more)were the only things CD-worthy, so I decided to use the SC3 selections on this other idea I had: a compilation of different trio performances with different kinds of trios. That's half the fun sometimes, the fact that your end product may be something entirely different by the time you're done..
So, the live trio CD will happen sometime down the road, when it's time, but for now I give you A Walk on the Mild Side. We had a lot of fun on all these sessions(particularly the two-guitars & bass)and I hope it's fun for you the listener as well.
