  • An album of surprising yet enjoyable twists...

"Cruisin with Crystal" ORIGINAL/COVER TEXAS RAP STYLE ROCK N'' BLUES BAND "THE CRAWLERS" Hailing from Rocket City USA, Huntsville, Alabama, this biker friendly band with the loyal following has been together for 16 years! Now in band years that's equivalent to 160 vigorous, enthusiastic, stimulating, crazy, action-packed eventful years, or so it seems anyway, especially when you're working with the same band members day after day, year after year! Congratulations guys. You're one of the few that's figured out the dynamics of keeping a band together. Now, on with the review... The Crawlers were the FIRST band asked to play on the Trail of Tears Ride, that has since grown to a historic ride with 130,000 bikes! They've also shared the stage with some of our most legendary rock-n-roll greats such as Steely Dan, The Allman Brothers, Marshal Tucker, ZZ Top, Kansas, Charlie Daniels, and the list goes on. Their most resent accomplishment, however, is the debut of their newest CD entitled "Leather & Steel". After listening to the whole album, I determined that musically, all the tunes flow well together, with a variety of music that takes you on a journey of blues, jazz, country, and rock-n-roll, laced with a little bit of today's rap. Yes, I said RAP. But really folks, it's okay. This is an album of surprising yet enjoyable twists, with several cuts guaranteed to liven up any party. This explains why it's already getting tremendous airplay on the college/net radio stations. Kudos to The Crawlers and the Mill Kids Music Studio for producing such an outstanding and fun album. With this album, The Crawlers have proven themselves to be not just another biker band from Alabama, but rebels who are breaking the mold of tradition and gosh darn it, they're making us like it! Go see this group live, my friends, and pick up a copy of their new CD, Leather & Steel. Do your part by supporting your local musicians. Without them, life would have NO flavor! The Crawlers and the Leather & Steel CD consist of the extraordinary Ray Brand on vocals, lead, rhythm and slide guitar: John Huber also on vocals, lead, and rhythm guitar, along with Thad Usry on vocals and harp. Owen Brown keeps the rhythm on bass guitar, then we have Billy Teichmiller on drums and percussion. In closing, I want to say thanks to Ray Brand for writing to me and telling me about his exceptional band. Ray, you have the right to be excited and as your new fan, it's my pleasure to introduce you and your band mates to the rest of our Full Throttle family and readers. Take care, and I do hope that one day we can share the stage together. You're right, Crystal & The Cruizers/ The Crawlers does have a nice ring to it! --Full Throttle Magazine Atlanta, Georgia

  • rocks from start to finish

The Crawlers "Leather and Steel" Huntsville, Alabama's own Southern blues rockers. The Crawlers bring out some real firepower on their new album "Leather and Steel". Excellent song writing and musicianship make the band's sophomore release absolutely indispensible. Ray Brand's lead guitar hints at Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter with a healthy dose of Duane Allman influenced slide. Ray, a long time side man for David Allan Coe, deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the afore-mentioned guitar gods. The whole band smokes. Drummer Billy Teichmiller, bassist Owen Brown and singer/harp player Thad Usry rocks the house on the title track, the perfect biker tune. Choice cuts include "Don't Kick the Dog", a clever rocker with a cameo by a couple of rappers - nothing obtrusive- just cool. "Rovin Gambler" is a balls to the wall smoker and "D.U.I." is another good, clever piece of writing from Brand. Usry does a fine job of vocals on "Leather and Steel", and on "Don't Take Away My Rock-n-Roll." The album rocks from start to finish, closing with a totally original piece of work called "Star Driver", a departure from out of left field that is really, really cool. The Crawlers are a hard-working group of seasoned road dogs, and they have created a piece of work that will hold up to countless plays without getting old.
