Cree 8, a thunderous rock/metal hybrid from Franklin, MA, is blazing a trail into the future by embracing the past... The fiery quartet looks to rock and metal founding fathers like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Kiss for a solid foundation while modern pioneers such as Metallica, Tool, Godsmack,
Staind, & Stone Temple Pilots provide a towering steel structure to build on.
Cree 8 was formed in June of 2001 when vocalist Johnny Venuto
teamed up with guitarist Joe Bacon, bassist Bill Donovan, and drummer Rob Rappa. They immediately recorded a 3 song demo and began to play the local club scene. Cree 8 was well received at shows and handed out over 500 copies of the recording to eager fans appreciative of their efforts. Since then, Cree 8 has been creating a buzz and following around New England; With radio airplay on Bay State Rock on WAAF, Boston Emissions on WBCN, and many other local stations.
Cree 8 has been playing with such bands as: Controlled Aggression, No December, Nullset, Bonescrew, Superkollider, Eastcide, and many others. Also, playing shows for WBCN, WFNX, and clubs like the Lucky Dog Music Hall, The Linwood, and Jarrod's Place.
Cree 8 continues to deliver in your face madness with supercharged
energy. In May of 2002, Cree 8 chose New Alliance Audio in Boston, MA to record 5 songs that represents the bands true identity. They were matched with engineer Ethan Dussault (Garrison) and in just 2 days recorded the entire EP. Mastering engineer Nick Zampiello (Cracktorch, Liquor Tricks) polished the recording and "Turning Point" was complete.
"Turning Point" is a true collaborative effort that takes listeners
down a dark path of human emotion. Lyrically, the EP delves into despair, loneliness, betrayal and self-destruction while the music makes the listener feel as if they had lived these experiences first hand. Cree 8 is an up and coming band that is sure to take it's music to the masses.

Cree 8 display wide range of emotions and tempos.
author: Anthony Lospinoso, Revolution X
Cree 8 bring it strong on their E.P., "Turning Point." There is a wide range of emotions and varied tempos that all fit together perfectly. The music is hard edged and the vocals go from smooth crooning to harsh screaming. "Blinded By Myself" is one of the best songs that I've heard in a while. In the song, "Lost" Cree 8 have flashes where they sound like Godsmack. This CD really gets me fired up. I think anyone into hard rock should go buy this CD immediately.

brings me back to the days of Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" but with a more mod

You remember Gruntruck? or the War Babies? - most likely not, but in my
opinion, they were two bands who tore many new assholes in their day and
age. IN anycase.....to be honest, with most bands, the comparisons come easy
(like yo mama! ha- sorry.) in this modern era of Korn cover bands to the
third power, but with the Massachusetts-based band Cree-8, that is quite far
from the case. After listening to their new EP five times completely through
(no bullshit) this morning, i wracked my beer-clouded brain over and over
for a "pinpointing" of their sound (as us half-assed reviewers lke to do);
but alas, in the end: (War Babies and Gruntruck- c'mon! how freakin'
obscure) no dice- WHICH TO ME IS A VERY GOOD THING! Here's
a band that at one second makes me think of the heavier end of King's X,
while also teasing me with a melodic older Anthrax-esque guitar hint here
and there (some really solid guitar soloing on this effort as well!). There
really is no weak linkin this band; i'm not saying that they're perfect yet,
but after seeing them only once over a year ago, Cree-8 have brought
their attack to 15 levels above their previous offering. Keep up the
great work guys! Love the vocal delivery - brings me back to the days
of Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" but with a more modern twist.
- Can't wait to see them live again!
