Move, the latest offering from Crispin Schroeder is a collection of 16 tracks which range from roots rock to funk to blues to alt country which span 10+ years of songwriting. Recorded on location in North Mississippi, and throughout Southeast Louisiana, the music is full of soul, grit, and passion. Sometimes laid back and sometimes jumpin', Move is a musical journey that's worth the ride.
In addition to contributions from Mary's Den band mates Ben Davis (drums), Micah Nickens (bass), and Casey Campbell (electric guitar), Move also features sax and trumpet by Brian Graber (Better Than Ezra, Tori Amos, Robbie Robertson, George Porter Jr.), electric guitar by Dave Rumsey (Earthsuit, Jason Morant, Macrosick) and many other musicians from around New Orleans.
Crispin has developed a reputation for genre blending: blues with jazz, classical with soul, folk with funk, and so on. This is something that comes naturally in a place like New Orleans which has such a varied mix of ingredients stewing 'round. And to his musical blend Crispin serves up lyrics which range from earthy to ethereal, songs about beautiful days, reluctant heroes, and contemplations that find inspiration in the book of Psalms.
