Anyone with a passion for South American music is almost bound to take a liking to this release. The enthusiasm and exhilaration which the Pazmino/Charles duo instil into their performances on this recording are quite infectious and uplifting. They have chosen well with regard to their programme mixing up the ood celebrated works with lesser known ones.

A few liberties are taken here and there in one or two places; in the Cardoso Milinga for example, an extra short melodic section is included and the repeats in Bolinhas de Queijo do not correspond with the published music, but nevertheless, these alterations do not in any way harm the music.

Throughout, the playing is enjoyable and the recorded sound is well engineered.

It was in 2006. I knew Floriane Charles and Cristobal Pazmino for having shared moments of friendship and music with them. Those moments when it is natural to pick up a guitar and say “Watch this !“ while you take another one and say “Show me !“. Traditionally, music is synonymous with sharing, emulation, passion. No competition, just the love of things well done, and the need to share.
It was in 2006, I went and listened to them in a village close to my hometown. I had the feeling I boarded a plane . Cristobal and Floriane took me on a journey, far away, in South America. Further yet: inside their hearts, from the tip of their fingers, with humor and discretion. The evidence of the intensity: you could forget the extreme technique and the acquired musical background behind the generosity and the involvement. Back on Earth, I could hear the other passengers enthusiastically comment the landscapes, talk about Floriane’s swiftness or Cristobal’s moved memories of Ecuador…
I recommend the trip with them.
