Album Notes

Sounds like? Man...Hate that one.
Listen for your self.
Try this.

Kinda like if Jack Johnson had done a lot less surfing, lived half his life in New York City, half on a cattle ranch in North Idaho and Preferred a chairlift to paddling out.
Eclectic Soul Music. Lyric and groove driven acoustic pop.
Holla at your haystack boiiii!!

CRUXLIFE=cristopher lucas

From the time I was born in New York City I've been on the move, spending time in NYC, upstate, Jamaica, Idaho, Spokane, more NYC, south Florida, southern Connecticuit, touring slowly across the northern U.S.A, down to California, stints in L.A. and San Diego, across the south and back to Queens, Brooklyn and back to Idaho. Dizzy yet? Huh. I've seen 27 countries playing in most of them. I've been planting seeds. Little friendly sleeper cells. I've been soaking up human nature. Experiences have translated directly into my songs. I don't sit down with my instrument to write hits. The songs grab me, sit me down, stand me up, shake my ass or make me cry and if I'm lucky one might be a hit. Either way they all hit me.
I grew up listening to James Taylor, The Beatles and The Wings, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Al Jarraeu, Bobby Mcferrin, My Dad and Mom, then moved on to Hall and Oats, More Stevie, Beat Street, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson then Jeff Buckley, Seal, Alanis, Tracy Chapman, Radiohead, Jellyfish, Tribe Called Quest, TLC, Babyface, STP, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell and on and on. I put it all in my head and heart and my soul, lived life and all the while spit out my own little concoctions. I have a wonderful support system of friends and fans that are always helping to keep me up. Until now I've been under promoted and over extended but now it's time to reach and expand to you, if you like.

Listen. No, really listen. This music is real. Evolved feelings spinning into song.
Life being lived again. Hurt being felt and dealt with.
Planting seeds, bearing fruit, struttin' down the street in a dope zoot suit.
Innocence, glitter and rainbows, Drugs and gutter shows.
The pouring rain allows you to make castles out of mud.
What's right, who's wrong, all put to a certain soundscape.
Vocal clarity, harmonies, smackin' snare drums and thumpin' basses to shake your windows and contort your faces. Can you tell that this ain't ordinary?
Sick of the processed sounds of the music shoved down our throats on commercial radio these days? Cookie cutters beat up and left dead in the gutter with the rats that have no talent for giving direction.
"Hey, just put the vocal through the auto tune machine and cut the bridge in half." My A$$.
This is real. The truth is that I, Cristopher Lucas, could quit today and/or die and Cruxlife vol.1 would always represent what is 100% me. I would die happy too. Is that selfish? Yes it is, but is anyone else Cristopher Lucas? Nope.
I've always wanted to create, in full, pieces of art. All of the songs, sounds, recording, packaging and merchandise I have created for both you and me.
This usually peaceful and smiling young-ish man really hopes that you all love this record and listen to the many subtle parts that equal one larger movement. I believe there is a lyrical message to all of these songs that is worthy of a little deeper thought. The world is a vast and scary environment; trails in early life can kill you or make you the strongest person who ever even dreamed to live. Cruxlife travels through a life from almost vengeful re-birth to a peaceful rise to what's next. It's my most complete work to date and I hope it's dateless. If it so happens that you think that this is all a bunch of junk then go join the Dim Light Parade. I'm through with you. til next time at least.

love-

A tour de force
author: Dan May

Cruxlife vol. 1 shows that Cristopher Lucas is most certainly a singer-songwriter to be reckoned with. This CD successfully combines elements of pop, funk, rap, soul and alternative rock, and while each song is unique and having it's own personality, there is an underlying thread that connects them all together into one cohesive unit. Lucas has a versatility that is unmatched, and a creativity that allows him to concoct songs that are lyrically clever and musically engaging. This is music for an intelligent audience that grows on the listener with each hearing. Plenty of layers to peel back and enjoy. This is good stuff and worthy of multiple listenings. A songwriter who isn't afraid to take chances is rare these days, and a CD of this caliber is equally rare.

Take two: my first review got lost in cyberspace a month and a half ago. Perhaps this is a better seasoned review any-hoo, having had more time to ruminate. Cruxlife has blessed my palate, and came to me at a very difficult time in life. Struggling to trudge forward, Cruxlife offered me a bundle of wisdom and truth that has made my burdens lighter, and the journey more bearable. The album has served as a guidelight at times. Amazing, isn't it, how truth is like a tuning fork that resonates everything in proximity to it. You don't even have to study or research for verification. Your gut just warms and begins to vibrate at the same pitch and frequency, and you just know you are holding onto authentic truth. Hence the terms gut-rot take, and gut-instinct. It's like Cris says on his website, sex without emotion is just porn :) hmm...okay I twisted that one a bit. Really he said music without emotion is just bad...but this is the same rule in action. Musicians without emotion are just whores making the same motions as the truly gifted. Cruxlife sounds good, yes, but it's full of the real things that bring meaning to the human existance. My tuning fork hums perfect pitch whenever I listen to Cruxlife. I rate 4 stars because I have a sense that Cris has just established base camp at the bottom of a really big deal (simile stolen from ani d) and is about to mount that wave and ride it high and long. So I can't throw out the full 5 when I can feel more, bigger and better on the way. Compared to other music and measured by my standards, it is an album worthy of 5 stars...but look out, get ready, mark my words...the best is yet to come.
