“It is told long ago, 2500 years ago, long ago, in Persia, it is told.”
February 28, 2010 is the 14th of Adar on the Hebrew calendar: PURIM!
To celebrate Purim, listen and sing along to this fun and engaging retelling of the Book of Esther story. It is considered a good deed to make merry and to listen to this story. Whenever you hear the name of the “bad guy,” Haman, you should drown out his name with boo’s and noisemakers (graggers.)
King Ahashverosh cares only about his lavish parties in the palace. He is not paying attention to the schemes of his Prime Minister, Haman (boo!), who is out to kill all of the Jews in Persia. But Mordechai, the scribe, has a plan for Esther to become the new Queen and save the Jews – and she does!
With catchy musical refrains and dramatic characters, this story from the Jewish tradition will entertain and educate all ages.
I am grateful to the Congregation Dorshei Tzedek Religious School in Newton, MA, where I recorded this live.
