Album Notes

The Croftsmen is the main vehicle for Mr Tooting, a British folk singer/songwriter with aspirations of becoming a high-altitude songsmith. The band’s unique sound is a playful blend of traditional folk, full-bodied Celtic, blues and baroque, with joyful melodies and cheeky lyrics. No strangers to technology, their sonic tapestry seamlessly weaves space-age guitar and lush keyboards with acoustic guitars and traditional folk instruments (pipes, mandolins, and cloth bags filled with grain). The band is no single malt, rather a premium blend - the Bell’s Scotch of the music world - and they are all the more rounded for it. Listen up.

Highlights from the "Mr Ginger" album include:

“The Boson’s Birthday”- A balls-to-the-wall modern take on classic Celtic
“The Parson, My Love” - A light and floral ode to a true love.
“She Was a Man” - firm and fruity.

The Croftsmen's music has been reviewed in the industry magazine, Future Music. Highlights from the FM review said:

"...neat touches and humour... "
"...swings between progressive rock and easy pop within a few bars and is well arranged..."
" ...[The Croftsmen] doing enough to get noticed..."

We have also been praised in the online folk magazine http://www.folkowa.art.pl who reviewed the Mr Ginger album.

Following the grand tradition of UK Folk Music

This album, "Mr Ginger", is by my high standards carrying on the fine tradition of UK Folk Music to a new musical audience. The baton is passed and these fine chaps are running with pride, sophistication and no little humour to present us with 18 uncommonly good songs. The highlight of the disc is the eye-watering moving, "She Was A Man", surely an ode to the most cautious members of society in the 'naughties', the motto being, "what you see is what you get". Most highly recommended.

Have been a Croftsmen fan for some time. In my opinion, this is the best offering since "Uncommonly Good" (seriously, it is). Great to see they have shown they still have their feet on the ground. If you don't know the band, I would recommended "Mr Ginger" if you are into traditional folk but like a contemporary edge. There is always plenty of good humour in Croftsmen lyrics too.
