Album Notes

About the CD:

‘Unboogie’ is an awesome debut CD taking its name from the instrumental 'The Unboogie' (track 4). It features 6 original tracks and 4 cover versions, capturing the bands energy and attitude, featuring devastating guitar/slide work from both Christina and Steve and backed up by the powerful rhythm section and embellished with brilliant keyboard playing. A very well produced self funded product pointing to traditional elements whilst embracing the new and with a uniqueness which is ‘Croftstown’.

The Biography:

Well as names go ‘Croftstown’ may not mean much to most people but hey.......if you’re out to catch some swampy guitar driven blues based, Aussie rock and aren’t offended by the thought of a quirky, butt kickin’ bad little dolly up front on vocals and guitar…..trading guitar licks & harmonies with her blues/rockin’ guitar slingin’ husband.....then ‘Croftstown’ could well mean a lot to you!

The band was formed in the latter end of 1995 by guitarist Christina Crofts and was previously known as ‘Croftstown Traffic’ (it never was a Hendrix tribute band…just a light-hearted play on words). The then three piece band worked frequently in and around Sydney with some of the memorable gigs being a support for awesome Aussie blues band ‘Chain’ and being invited to play on the first ‘Goulburn Blues Festival’ in 1997 as well as the one and only ‘Leisure Coast Blues Festival’ in Wollongong also in 1997.

Christina’s husband Steve joined ‘Croftstown’ after the band he was playing in a the time ‘The Lancaster Bombers’ a mutation of the original band ‘The Bombers’ which was formed by Alan Lancaster (ex Status Quo) and John Brewster (Angels) decided called it a day. At that time a 5 track demo CD was recorded (January 1999) and new gigs were sought and won, not the least of which was an appearance on ‘The Great Southern Blues & Rockabilly Festival’ in Narooma in 2000.

Since it's release in January 2006, 'Unboogie' has had some great reviews and has continued to be played on blues related programs around the world.

Superb Bluesy Guitar rock - don't miss this one!

This album is really something quite special. Some of the finest, searing guitar licks you're going to hear anywhere, anytime - soaring slide, fabulous Tele work, perfectly complemented by lead vocals with real attitude. And all brought together by the twin guitar attack of the husband and wife team that make up the very dynamic Croftstown. A terrific mixture of well chosen covers and fine originals, with the two players complementing each other just perfectly. The title track - a searing instrumental - is unforgettable, but there is no weak link on this album - every track has so much to enjoy and appreciate for anyone who enjoys hard driving bluesy rock. This album really is well worth seeking out. Well done Croftstown!

Now this is, without a doubt, my best-ever purchase from CD Baby! Christina and Steve are, by the way, friends of mine, and I reccomended they put their long-overdue first album on the site, which they have. This is a HOT collection of the wildest guitar duels you ever heard in your LIFE! I have seen them all on stage in gigs, but not since they made this beauty. Come on Aussie bluesters, show the world what we're made of!

...the chemistry and generosity of spirit between these two - husband & wife lead/rhythm guitarists is obvious across the rcord as one steps forward to solo then steps back for the other to shine, as equals, especially on The Unboogie. Inevitably the power in a record like this is in those soaring, shimmering, beckoning, aching, feisty, celebratory, ricocheting guitars, the natural medium of communication of the players. That's where you hear the power of love, musical and otherwise.
