Album Notes

Recovery: noun: Restoration to a former or better condition; the return to an original state; improvement.

Created in the two-year period following the unexpected death of her long-time love, Michelle Cruz’s gorgeous, old-school sultry ‘The Recovery’, is just that: an artistic reawakening, born from tragedy’s devastation, a testament to the restorative power of art, music, and love.

Combining the evocative sensuality of jazz with an expressive lyrical beauty of folk, ‘The Recovery’ feels universal yet intimate, and each song, some of which were co-written with collaborator Adam Luaces, is brilliantly suited to Cruz’s voice. The actual, personal heartbreak is palpable, but the effect is regenerative rather than melodramatic, creating music cathartic in its depth and healing in its beauty.

‘The Recovery’ not only reminds us of the light that can follow darkness, it inspires us to seek it out for ourselves.

Live review of Michelle Cruz:

"Michelle Cruz is the epitome of sultry; the perfect balance between sweetness and rawness. Seeing her perform live is like catching the eyes of your soul mate - a moment when each of you suddenly sees inside the other and it feels like home.”
- Reza Clifton, Host of "Venus Sings Radio"
