Fruit Salad

This listener first saw and heard Captain Smarty Pants perform with the Seattle Men's Chorus, and nearly died laughing when they performed *The Letter Song*. This CD, for the most part, lives up to my expectations. Barnes' songs are clever and well performed, some of them (like *Available* and *Parking Spot*) are wry commentary on urban (gay) life. I did think *Shave and a Haircut* foolishly sentimental, but those who enjoy tight harmonies for the sake of same, will probably think it an impressive performance. *Fruit Salad* is probably my favorite song from a musical point of view: jazzy and abstract and full of life.
