I first met Crystal Senter Brown or shall I say heard her for the first time at a club in Springfield, MA. As the show was coming to an end I said to myself, “One day I’m going to work with her.” I was blown away by her stage presence, beauty, and delivery. She had me and the rest of the audience in the palm of her hands. Ten years later we saw each other at a different club in Springfield but this time we met, traded music and proceeded to discuss how we would approach collaborating on a project. After our meeting I told her I would listen to her cd and do a review, she said, “cool.” We parted I went on the road for 8 days and for 8 days I listened to nothing but “Mojo” sometimes twice a day. I guess it’s obvious I really enjoyed this cd.
Before I get to Crystal let me say Jarreau Pitts did an outstanding job on the musical textures with some added star power by bassists’ Heshima Moja and Anton Gillyan. Now, for Miss Crystal she wrote all the hooks and they are quite memorable. The lyrics range from love, loss, serious, fun, touching, empowering and free. Crystal has a remarkable ability to reel you in and fill your heart and soul with the emotion of the subject matter. I love her voice (good pitch) and the way she makes the transition from vocal to spoken words, track 10 “Patiently” is a good example of that. This cd is about the journey not the destination it deserves your full attention from start to finish. As far as I’m concerned that’s the only way to understand the beauty and brilliance of Crystal Senter Browns’ “Mojo”.
PS
Do yourself a huge favor and read her book “Doubledutch.” Nikki Giovanni said, “This book should be read by every young woman.” I say, “This book should be read by everyone, it’s a literary achievement.”

There aren't very many albums out there that a 'plus sized' woman can relate to. Crystal's album brings out the realistic side of a woman...their needs, wants, and of course their sexuality. This album is awesome! My favorite song is In The Dark where she speaks of a 'secret love affair'...Crystal's talent is truly displayed in every one of her songs!
