Album Notes

Pianist Christopher Schindler grew up and received his musical training almost entirely in the Pacific Northwest. Born in Everett Washington, he began his musical training at age nine and was a soloist in concert with the Everett Symphony when he was 13. He studied with Joyce Ways, Randolph Hokanson, Neal O'Doan, and Marlene Thal. Christopher received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Washington and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oregon. He has also studied with master teachers, Béla Bőszörményi-Nagy, Adele Marcus, and Karl Ulrich Schnabel. Dr. Schindler was a professor at Marylhurst University and taught part-time at other colleges in the Portland area in addition to his private studio. Mr. Schindler has appeared as soloist with many Northwest orchestras including the Seattle Philharmonic, Everett Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Columbia Symphony, Yaquina Chamber Orchestra and University of Oregon Symphony. He has performed in recitals and chamber concerts throughout the West Coast. Schindler was a finalist in the International Villa-Lobos Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro in 1988 and was also a gold medal winner in the International Piano Recording Competition of Fort Worth in 1978. In 1995 Mr. Schindler played a recital in Italy at the Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio on Lake Como at the invitation of the Rockefeller Foundation. In 1998, he released his first CD, Anthology – Early Live Perfomances. A CD of piano music of Franz Liszt will be released in the fall of 2007. Christopher Schindler currently resides in Portland, OR. Besides teaching and performing, he is organist-pianist at the 1st Congregational Church in Vancouver, WA. He also works as a translator of several foreign languages.
