Excitement and class define the vocal stylings of Cynthia Scott. An Arkansas native, Cynthia developed her love of music at an early age singing in her father’s church. After high school, she moved to Dallas and became a stewardess while also performing on the local jazz circuit. Her talents were discovered by the late Ray Charles, and she began her career touring and recording as one of the highly acclaimed Ray Charles ‘Raelettes.’Later returning to Texas, she established herself as a solo jazz vocalist before moving to New York. Cynthia has become a featured performer at prestigious cultural centers worldwide. She has performed with many jazz celebrities such as Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., Warren Vache, Marcus Belgrave, Leroy Cooper, Igor Butman, John Hicks, Onaje Allan Gumb, Cyrus Chestnut, John Pitzarelli, Margareth Whiting, Hank Crawford, Onzy Matthews, Lionel Hampton and the legendary Cab Calloway who called her, his new discovery. Cynthia was saddened that her work with Lionel Hampton and Cab Calloway was towards the end of their lives. She quotes, there was so much more to learn from them. Her last engagement at Jazz at Lincoln center with Wynton Marsalis in a centennial tribute to Benny Carter, was recorded live on XM Radio and WBGO. Wynton introduced her as the sweetest, soulful voice possessing the deepest feeling and called her one of today’s finest jazz singers. The Chicago Tribune once stated, “Cynthia sings with remarkable smooth intonation that stands out for it’s quiet intensity and as often as Midnight Sun and Moon River have been associated with Audrey Hepburn, Cynthia made the tunes her own.” Another critique wrote in the Syracuse Herald, “Cynthia performs with haunting artistry and superb talent…”Cynthia has recorded four CD’s, which were all Grammy contenders and released on her TTOCS Records label. Her new release DREAM FOR ONE BRIGHT WORLD has been quoted as the Anointment of Cynthia Scott. She holds a Master’s Degree in Music from Manhattan School of Music. Internationally renown singer, Jon Lucien proclaimed Cynthia “…as one of the best female singes in the business today. She’s a real performer, a fantastic voice and complete musician. David Fathead Newman stated that “Cynthia Scott is a master at lighting up a stage. Style, sophistication, and spunk! She’s got it all.” In 2004 Cynthia had the distinction to serve as Jazz Ambassador for the United States. During her tour, she performed for numerous foreign heads of state and taught master classes and workshops along with concerts all over West Africa and France.
