Darling and dear, discerning ear;
May we pull on you for a moment, and chatter on about this musical endeavor : "Flags of Discontent"? (please?) Although Cuban Cigar Crisis, have been at the forefront of the much touted peninsula/south Bay Area sound, for nearly a decade now; this album trumpets a new beginning, not just for CCC, but for you as well; the currents of time and space are changing, as you may know; as the universe expands, so must our musical expressions. When listening to "Flags of Discontent", you will first identify with the common human expressions of malaise, heartbreak and yearning; the nuanced, hypnotic presentation of these themes will serve to entrance you, compelling your own desires for a resolution to these classic follies of humanity. Example: When dynamic! frontman, Charles Eden queries "Would you cry at my funeral?", absent is the irony with which many musical acts would succumb too; he honestly wants to know, and desires, I surmise, that you would come to know him through his words, and regard him well enough so that you just might. CCC have no patience for fronting; they love to delight, and want to delight you; they want to love and be loved.
The talent: Cuban Cigar Crisis; is a band of miscreant, radical ne'er-do-wells; their inspiration, compelling these children to write and perform musical tales of tragedy and delight, is their diminished will to live and desire for a fruitful apocalyptic tomorrow. You will learn, as we have; CCC rides the cusp of collective consciousness (for your doubts I will tell you how children do follow them down the street by instinct: pied piper). They find their lives filled with pointless task after pointless task, performed for the benefit of others who have little regard for their peace and happiness. Suspecting your life may be much the same, they soldier on in order to have the meager resources for which they can utilize to hone their creative expressions for which you see evidence in the album herein. If you are sympathetic to these people, and their message, please see to it, that you enjoy this record.

The new new thing
author: Ned Kram
Forget Casabian, Jet and the other latest imports. If you're looking for the new new thing, take a listen to Cuban Cigar Crisis' (CCC) Flags Of Discontent. The studio recording adds layers to the 3 piece's lean live sound, while staying true to the passion of the band's shows. With a nod to Radiohead and a wink to Morrissey, Flags OF Discontent is a nuanced, mature recording that truly showcases the 10 original, sombre-perhaps-depressing-no melodies. At a minimum, spin up 5 times.
