Album Notes

I'd say the lyrics for the songs on this album are reasonably well-crafted, but the topics I sing about tend to be a bit quirky: "Sometimes I Wish I Was a Paramecium" is a 1971 fantasy about a female lab partner from my high school biology class. "The Hill" celebrates a 1966 panty raid. "Pink Velvet" is a 1995 account of an imaginary adventure in a strip club. "The Armadillo Sleeps Tonight" is based on some feelings of bitter loneliness I felt in Austin, Texas in the Spring of 1969. "Snow Prince" is another reflection on feelings of loneliness and failure. I've revised the original text I wrote in 1965 so many times I've been tempted to call it "Palimpsest." "Inflatable Woman" is just what you think it is -- a satire on academic feminism. "cross bronx acid trip" is a surrealistic fantasy -- I don't really drive while intoxicated. The working title of my next album is "Amorous Telepathy." I've got five tracks from it up my MySpace.com page. They are still quirky, they still reflect my personality, but they are not self-absorbed like some of my earlier stuff. I've had a lot of fun over the last couple of years, and that fun has, I believe, given a certain bounciness to my music. You should especially check out "Bubble Pop Apocalypse," which is my attempt at pop hip-hop. (My collaborator, BRP Inc, gets credit for the beat and for a few major suggestions on the lyrics.) It is truly the work of a "high bouncing lover," if I might borrow a phrase from F. Scott Fitzgerald. As to the "Twisted Pear" CD for sale on this page, I give much thanks and appreciation to my fans who have been able to see past its technical inadequacies and find in it something of value.
