Album Notes

Our musical group originated through a Civil War reenactment organization called "The Mifflin Guard". The Guard consists of many different member regiments that come together to form a larger group in camp and in the field. By the campfire, musicians from different parts of the country get together to share a common interest in history and music of the Civil War era. The Mifflin Guard is responsible for putting the Cumberland Blues together as we are from the 12th New Jersey and 61st New York Volunteers within the Guard. We have played many concerts since our creation and continue to share our music with whoever will listen. This album is our first and I hope you will enjoy being a part of the musical sounds of the 1860's for almost 1 hour of period music.

Bought this CD solely for the track Camptown Races. Have been searching for a decent recording for some time for my daughter's tap class to dance to. The older children (6-8yrs) will be dressed as jockeys and the younger (5-6yrs) will be dressed as horses so the music is just perfect. The kids love the music and keep getting told off for singing instead of dancing!

Some of these songs I learned as a girl. Hearing them is strictly nostalgia time. Well done!
