After miraculously recovering from a near-terminal case of "Bruce", blues artist turned rock and roller, Shannon Curfman has finally released the follow-up record to her critically acclaimed debut album, "Loud Guitars, Big Suspicions". Originally signed to Arista Records at the age of 14, "Loud Guitars" rose to the number 3 spot on the Billboard Blues Chart. She has shared the stage with legends B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Santana and has recorded with John Mayall, Billy Preston, Meshell N'degeocello and Keb' Mo. Her songs have appeared on the soundtracks of "Where the Heart Is" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", as well as HBO's "The Sopranos", "G String Divas" and the WB's "Gilmore Girls". At 14, Shannon was praised for her blues-driven songwriting, gritty, soulful voice and her scorching guitar. Now 20, Shannon's back on the road honing a new set of songs featured on her new release, "Take It Like A Man". With age and experience, the music has evolved and the genre has moved slightly away from funky-blues towards rock & roll.

I had been waiting for this for 7 years!

Since I saw her show in Japan about 7 years ago, when she released "loud guitars, big suspicions," I had been waiting for her 2nd album, and finally got this! I'm so glad. This one is less bluesy, but harder rocking. Must buy. Must listen.

Righteous rock riffage
author: Miles
Shannon Curfman first made a splash in the late 1990s as a 14-year-old blues prodigy, turning heads with her guitar playing, singing and all-around musical ability. After the attention around her debut album "Loud Guitars, Big Suspicions" waned, Curfman kept quiet for a few years -- while she was busy growing up. Well, she's an adult now, and "Take It Like A Man" is definitely evidence of that. There's still a blues-rock foundation to Curfman's music, but this EP comes fully loaded with head-turning power riffs reminiscent of hard-rock icons from Led Zeppelin to Soundgarden -- and even some hooky pop moments (the chorus of Tangled) for good measure. Great musicianship and sharp-edged songwriting make this CD highly recommended. Looking forward to a lot more from this very, very talented woman.
