Album Notes

Simple yet Dynamic......Innovative yet Classic....... Singer/Songwriter Rudy Currence provides a breath of fresh air to today's music scene. his musical background is very diverse, spanning almost every genre of music (i.e. Gospel, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Folk, Pop, and Classical.) With this wide range blended smoothly into one distinct sound, Rudy has a rare crossover appeal that reaches urban as well as sub-urban audiences of all ages.
Rudy has been singing since age 3 and playing the piano since age 6. He also plays several other instruments including the guitar and trumpet. He is a 2002 graduate of Furman University where he majored in music and received classical voice and piano scholarships. He is an ASCAP writer. His industry credits include co-writing 2 songs on the Multi-Platinum recording artist Mya. the 2 songs are featured on Mya's latest effort, "Moodring" and their titles are "Sophisticated Lady" and "No Sleep Tonight." Mya's album charted at no# 3 on the billboards. Rudy also wrote and recorded a song for the "Bourne Identity" movie starring Matt Damon. the song is titled "Believe Me."
In May of 2003, he performed on one of Charlotte, NC's biggest acoustic showcases, the Tosco Music Party. In June 2003 Rudy showcased at the legendary Bluebird cafe for NY college booking agency, Auburn Moon. Since then, Rudy has opened up for several national recording artists including R&B sensation, Keith Sweat, veteran singer-songwriter Kevin Kenney, Cody Chestnutt, LaTocha Scott (formerly of Xscape), and Yahzarah. He has toured the college market extensively, recently completing a Pacific Northwest college tour that lasted the entire month of February 2004 followed by a Northeast tour during April. Other recent performances include ASCAP showcases sponsored by Heineken, SONY showcases, the Atlantis Music Conference (2002-2004), Earthlink Live (Atl,Ga.) The 3 Rivers Music Festival (Columbia, SC), Speed Street (Charlotte, NC), For Sisters Only Tour (Charlotte, NC), The Liquid Soul Showcase (Atl, Ga.), Atlanta's open mic venues the Apache Cafe and Eddie's Attic, and the Evening muse (Charlotte, NC). Rudy is definitely a seasoned performer having shared the same stages as the Nappy Roots, Cee-lo Green, Twista, and the Roots.
Most importantly, Rudy released his first independent effort on Aug. 25, 2003. The project is titled "More Than You'll Ever Know," and is available in many stores including Manifest Disc and Tapes, HMV, and FYE. The album is also available online at www.cdbaby.com. Since its debut, music from the CD has been selected to play in several national retail and restaraunt chains including all Old Navy stores nationwide and was featured on the NPR All Songs Considered website. The Cd was just recently selected as a feature in the national Disc Makers Catalog and was critiqued in the national publication "Music Connection" where it received the highest score of the month in addition to rave reviews. Rudy wrote, produced, and arranged the entire album. Rudy's brother, Patrick Currence co-produced 2 tracks on the CD. His music is categorized as R&B/ Soul but is very diverse and exhibits a strong crossover appeal.
A native of Rock Hill, SC this unique youngster and his soul -stirring performances are a reminder of old school singer/songwriters like Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Lionel Richie, James Taylor, The Carpenters, and The Bee Gees. in his own rendition of Leon Russell's "Song For You" Rudy captures a soulful delivery reminiscent of the late Donnie Hathaway. while being influenced by the past, Rudy manages to stay current and in the vein of modern singer/songwriters such as Alicia Keys, India Arie, John Mayer, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, R. Kelly, Norah Jones, and Avril Lavigne.
In describing himself, Rudy states " In everything that I do I want to set trends instead of follow them." Aspiring to acheive longevity through his music, this young man is definitely bound for greatness. As an artist he awaits a bright shiny future filled with meaningful and timeless music. As stated in the lyrics of his own self-fulfilling composition "Songwriter" Rudy , through his songs, will someday leave a legacy behind for generations and generations to come. So if you like this melody, please, we invite you to sing along!

BEST ALBUM I HAVE HEARD IN MY LIFETIME!
author: TaVares Gaither
It was like a movement when I heard his soul on the radio for the first time heading to charlotte, nc. (Who is this boy version of Brandy - I was listening to"Stay Clear") I had to research- came up with " More than you ever know" I am a 80's R&B baby.. it has substance (unlike music now well whats called R&B)and its trus singing. I hire Rudy to sing in 2004 and he KILLED! True genius...Every song all the way through to the end is nothing less than magic.... like stevie said " if its magic why can't it be ever lasting...? and why can't it... you will have to have this album in rotation on your cd player ipods etc... its worth every cent.

This album has been in my collection for about a year and a half and I'm just fallen in love with it. It took me a while but I finally listen to all the tracks. It's original and innovative. It might not be for the conventional listener but if you're looking for something totally different, then Ruddy is your man. PS, his live performances are the stuff dreams are made of
