Album Notes

Life on the planet can be uplifting, exhilarating, terrifying, depressing. Every word that describes an emotional state has real human stories that bring that word to life. After years as a practicing psychologist, I find myself turning to music and writing to chronicle the lives of those I have met in the course of my personal journey.

The CD, a sort of backwards journey through life, begins with a set of Eulogies and ends with a set of Theologies. In between are some Blueologies, some Friendologies, and a few Countrologies, providing the listener with a variety of topics and tempos. All are stories, some sad, some laughable, some thought provoking, about people and life on the planet.

"How Sad to Leave So Soon" is a song written for a brillant young musical talent who tragically died, leaving a massive void where her music might have been. "Dust on the Water" is a 9/11 story from a single family's perspective. "The Sound of His Oars" is a eulogy for my father, and "Wish Upon a Star" was written for dear friends separated by a death.

The CD gets more upbeat, if not cheerier, with a set of open D bluesy numbers. "Honky Tonk Blues" recalls early musical efforts and the less than enthusiastic reaction from the paternal unit. "My One and Only Friend" was written for all those who have passed through my life while spending too much time in a bar, and "Vietnam Lullaby" is my anti-war song. Unfortunately anti-war songs never go out of date because some butt-hole is always starting another one.

"The Ballad of Jesse and Kate" is a classic story of the encounter between young people and the established legal authorities. A tale of true love, road rage, the police, and the moon, it will make you chuckle. "Do You Still Remember Me" and "You and Me" are stories about old connections that linger fondly in the memory.

"Don't You Go Believing Me" and "Can't Let You Go" are country influenced songs which are parts one and two of the Love Sucks Triology. Song three came after the CD release and will be available on the next CD.

"Lazarus" and "Just Believe" provide interesting insights into the connection between God and religious doctrine, while "Life is Just a Winding River" attempts to provide a mild antidote to the excess of mature advice to which younger members of the species are often subjected. It is included in the Theologies section because of at allusion to self-baptism and the absence of any other place to put it.

Hope you enjoy.

I'm a college student who just happen to run across this wonderful CD and I thought I should let everyone know that they should add this to their collection. The tunes are great and the feeling is a mellow one which leaves to waiting for more. If you like paul simon, then this CD is just what you're looking for.

You done good. . . . impressed with your lyrical skills and the quality of production. For me your style was a blending of Ray Davies and Tom Petty. Comfortable to listen to . . . . Great website too. I enjoyed reading about your other projects and 'visiting' Big Basin Vineyards. Nice work.

"Dust in the Water" is an instant classic. If you are into classic folk like Burt Jansch, Arlo Guthrie, and even BoB Dylan, give this CD a try!
