ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Curtis' musical style follows the singer/songwriter tradition of James Taylor and Don Mclean, yet also draws upon many others ranging from Hawaiian music to bossa nova to the Beatles to Motown soul. He began playing semi-professionally at seventeen, in an acoustic blues duo named "the starving musicians". Several months later he landed his first solo gig at a small coffee shop outside of Waikiki.

After earning a degree in music and theater from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, Curtis moved to San Francisco, California to release his independently produced debut CD entitled "You Can Close Your Eyes", which includes several Curtis Kamiya originals.

An intimate and compelling performer, Curtis has been charming audiences for 10 years. After gigging extensively in the bay area in support of his cd, Curtis has recently moved back to the Puget Sound area. Today, you can find him performing in and around Seattle.

A Real Discovery: Honest Polished Soul...
Curtis Kamiya's debut record showcases the vibrance and experience of an important new songwriter. While most of the record features deeply textured and masterful covers of the works of his major influences (Taylor, McLean, Chapman), the disc's best offering comes in the three tracks Kamiya composed himself. This record showcases a rare gift among the current generation of musicians: the ability to handle honest emotions without slipping into sentiment or parody. A great find...

smooth voice, skilled guitar playing, and his originals are *catchy*!!
i measure the quality of music by how much i enjoy hearing it and how much i can't stop singing it to myself later. curtis gives me plenty of material! his pieces go beyond, that, though--the lyrics are clever, insightful, and revealing, and the arrangements innovative. i can't wait for the next album!!

close your eyes and LISTEN TO THIS
I have been listening to this CD non-stop since I got it. Curtis sings from the space in his heart that is honest and pure. His tributes to McLean, Taylor, and Chapman are fresh and inviting yet still familiar. But the real gems of this album are Curtis' own songs-- they are sweet and unpretentious as he sings of the elation of love and the space of silence. You Can Close Your Eyes establishes Curtis as an important new voice, the next generation of Taylor and McLean. BUY THIS CD! You'll thank me for it later.
