Album Notes

"Los Angeles/Reykjavik-based singer/songwriter/violin guy ROLAND HARTWELL has been creating one helluva buzz with his alt/pop/rock band CYNIC GURU, which combines elements of TEARS FOR FEARS, The BEATLES and leftfield oddness into an affable pop mix. A violinist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra (who've also crossed musical paths with native daughter Bjork), Hartwell has played for Dr. Dre, Cher, P. Diddy, Mandy Moore, Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, Brian Adams, Leanne Rimes, Dionne Warwick, and Barry White." By Tom Farrell of Music Biz Magazine

"Iceland" is the long awaited debut cd from Cynic Guru. It includes "Catastrophe", "Death of a Guitarist", "Digging the Holes", "Yellow Bag", as well as their #1 hit "Drugs".

Just gorgeous, gorgeous. Remember Eddie Jobson and UK? (OK, I'm dating myself, here.) This is like a modern version of them, with more vocal harmonies. Where have these guys been all my life?

I've followed Cynic Guru since their MP3.com days. This is a great album, containing a mixture of old and new material. Updates to older songs work really well and the production values are high. Recommended!
