When I saw the Chicago teen bludgeon his fellow student to death in full view of dozens of onlookers, I knew something had happened to our youth that I didn't understand. How did a little boy grow up to become someone who had the kind of rage that would make him do something so horrendous? Americans had to do something to make sure this didn't happen again. I had to do something. So I returned to the studio. The first song, "911 Chicago" came to me already formed in my head and ready to go. It was as if both the perpetrator and victim cried out to me to tell their story. After completing this cut, I knew I had to write more music that would help young people consider their power and then seize it. I wanted to help them put down the guns, stop the violence, and instead, choose life. So after many hours with my awesome musicians and a hot young rap artist from Georgia State University, "Music That Gives Young People Power" was born. You can dance, chill, or slow jam. It's all here. Pop, hip hop, spoken word, and a bit of rap---all with life changing messages that will get youth into their power.
