notes
Champion fiddlers and multi-instrumentalists, Daniel and Amy Carwile are a dynamic husband and wife musical duo whose personal connection lends poignancy to their music and spark to their performances. Showcasing versatility on fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki, guitar, piano and vocals, their broad repertoire of acoustic music includes traditional tunes with modern interpretations as well as original compositions.
Seasoned and diverse musicians, the Carwiles bring to the stage over 48 years of performing experience. They have performed with artists such as Tim O’Brien, Bela Fleck, The Moody Blues, The Battlefield Band, and Mark O’Connor, among others. Competing across the country, Amy has garnered fiddle awards in over 10 states and British Columbia. Daniel, a U.S. Grand Master and World Series of Fiddling Champion, is also a sought after session musician, recording on Rounder, Sugar Hill and Rebel Records with the likes of Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Kenny & Amanda Smith, John Cowan and Larry Cordle. His participation in, “Moody Bluegrass: A Nashville Tribute to the Moody Blues” earned him a nomination for Recorded Event of the Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association and climbed to number 8 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Chart.
“They are two of the most accomplished musicians I have run across in a long time,” said Don Rigsby, head of the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music. “Amy and Daniel are masters of their art,” added Alex McKinven, who coordinates the Mull of Kintyre Festival in Scotland. “Pulsating, heart stopping reels and jigs, their music defies an audience to remain seated--simply exhilarating!”
Daniel and Amy operate Carwile String Studio, specializing in fiddle, viola, mandolin and guitar instruction, passing along America’s rich musical heritage to students of all ages. In tandem with their private instruction, they travel throughout the U.S. and abroad conducting fiddle workshops and master classes, in addition to music camps such as Mark O’Connor’s Fiddle Camps and String Conferences and the International Fiddle School at Vanderbilt University.
Daniel and Amy’s unique musical style has been heard from the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee to venues and audiences across the United States as well as Canada and the British Isles. Whether mesmerizing the audience with a slow harmony or busting bow hair on foot-stomping hoedowns, the Carwiles deliver, straight from the heart.
