"She's up for just about anything, as long as it has more than four legs."
Emerging out of Greenpoint, Brooklyn by way of New Zealand, the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Dallas, Texas and Pittsburgh, PA this four-dimensional band gave its American debut performance at Joe's Pub in New York City in June 2005, followed by performances at CBGB's, The Knitting Factory and Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg.
Written and conceived by Jim Bauer (The Weimarband / The Blue Flower) and fronted by high-intensity actor/singer Meghan McGeary, Dagmar explores the tortured relationships between ecstasy, calamity, music and narrative. A surreal story cycles through the mountain-to-valley music arrangements about a guy who can't get out of bed in the morning and an excitable insect goddess who plunges through the ether to rescue him.
“The presentation is certainly theatrical, including a set of glimmering wings that McGeary dons at one point, but what anchors the band is the singers’ voices: his is weary and experienced, hers is hauntingly beautiful, and they play back and forth over a soundtrack that is equal parts rock fury and jazzy resignation. Their energy, even as they sing about wanting to stay in bed all day, is contagious." -- Brian Richichi Reviews
