"This is really, really, good."
-- Duncan Wilder Johnson, The Noise, Boston
"Dagmar traffics in dark, arty rock that can bring to mind The Residents."
-- Jay Ruttenberg, TimeOut NY
Hailing from the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY and Boston, MA, six piece DAGMAR is fronted by creator/singer/guitarist JIM BAUER and diva MEGHAN McGEARY, whose vocal range and mercurial stage presence literally transfix audiences. They are joined by a rare collection of virtuoso musicians: Mat Fieldes on electric bass, Vessko Gellev on violin, Pablo Rieppi on percussion & vibes, and David Rozenblatt on drums and marimba.
Bauer and McGeary also tour as a duo, DAGMAR 2, featuring Jim on vocals & guitar and Meghan on vocals, assorted percussion, melodica, costumes and drama.
For their contribution to this political season, Dagmar 2 released a music video of their new protest song "(TO HELL WITH) THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF" which was honored on You Tube video in the TOP 100 MUSIC VIDEOS in its first week and is currently ranked #2 in the TOP 100 PROTEST VIDEOS on Neil Young's Living With War page (http://www.neilyoung.com/lwwtoday/lwwvideospage.html). Dagmar 2 also recorded another new protest song "GIVE ME THE RIFLE" which is ranked #14 on Neil Young's TOP 700 SONGS OF THE TIMES list (http://www.neilyoung.com/lwwtoday/lwwsongspage.html).
Dagmar has played to SRO audiences in the top small music venues in New York and Boston since its debut at Joe’s Pub (NYC) in June 2005. It will begin a European tour in July 2007 at Etnafest in Catania, Sicily (http://www.etnafest.it).
Dagmar's live performances have been compared to The Flaming Lips, the B52s, and early Genesis. McGeary's stage presence has been likened to Nina Hagen, Kate Bush, Siouxie Sioux, Annie Lennox, Patti Smith and Cyndi Lauper, with Bauer's music and charismatic performance drawing comparisons to moody songwriters Leonard Cohen, Morrissey, Elvis Costello and Richard Thompson.
