Daisy Nell and Capt. Stan sing of their lives on Cape Ann, MA, through original and traditional material. Accompanying themselves on banjo and guitar, and often in the company of their band Crabgrass, they transport their audiences from Gloucester to Hawaii and back. Whether on a 19th century whaling ship in Alaska or aboard their Essex-built schooner, Daisy and Stan tell the tales through songs both serious and facetious, and always with a touch of humor and a grain of salt. "They are truly our singers laureate", says author and historian Joe Garland.
"Heartbeat From the Sea" focuses on Cape Ann, Massachusetts, and our lives here: working, playing music, and, hopefully, sharing it with you! Although we try to take our listeners to far away places with our music, we often find universal themes right in our own lives, our own roots. The sea around us often dominates our music, but family life and ties to the shore are very strong for both of us. The majority of songs on this album this are written by Daisy or Stan, and cover topics ranging from Essex shipbuilding to new found love.
Crabgrass consists of Andy Woolf, and his fiddle; Pat Conlon on mandolin and blues harp; and Steve Wainwright on bass - with guest crab Dana King of Old Cold Tater.
