Album Notes

NEW: Just awarded third place for TRADITIOANL FOLK ALBUM by Just PLain Folks Music Awards!! Daisy Nell, native of Essex, MA, mainstay of the shipbuilding industry for over 300 years, brings alive New England's maritime history through traditional and contemporary songs of the sea. A familiar voice on the North Shore music scene, she is known for her broad repertoire of traditional folk, chanteys, and contemporary songs. Her husband, Capt. Stan, adds his guitar and dobro to Daisy's banjo and guitar. Together they cover a lot of territory, from the foc's'le to the farm! Daisy has been associated with school programming for many years as a free-lance in-school artist, nursery school music teacher, and museum educator. She also has written and implemented on board interpretative programs on various vessels, including the Mimi and the schooner Adventure. She has written the signature song for Adventure, among others, including a few advertising jingles.
"Daisy is one of the most inpsired singers I know. She grabs your attention and keeps it going", says John Langstaff, founding director of Revels, Inc., Cambridge, MA.
Stan Collinson started out in high school folk groups and moved on to a performing duo in college with mandolin titan Taylor Armerding of Northern Lights fame. When not tuning his guitar or dobro, might be found tuning up an engine at his business, Gaybrook Garage in Essex. Stan was also at the helm of his free-range turkey farm for many years. Sadly, Boundary Farm is no longer raising birds, but the occasional off course sea gull roosts on the roof.
"Time Has Made a Change in Me" is a collections that includes old folk songs, gospel, and contemporary folk music. For this recording project, Daisy and Stan team up with their regular crew of musician friends, Jack Schwartz (bass), Pat Conlon (mandolin), and Andy Woolf (fiddle) to form the group known as Crabgrass. The name is much like the band itself: a blend of bluegrass mixed with a large grain of salt, bringing sea chanteys and shipboard ditties to new depths. The album features Stan on Guitar and dobro, with Daisy singing lead and playing guitar and banjo. Daisy's daughter Miranda Henry Russell is a guest performer featured on a few of the cuts, as well as the album's title track. Local famous favorites Bill and Sarah Smith also lend their talent on a couple of ripping tunes.
