THE SIMPLE STORY
We're funny. But we're musical. How to combine the two? Tada!
THE CASUAL STORY
We met in high school, sang in several groups over the years, took it seriously and here we are, four years later, with our debut album of mostly original material from our years of work-shopping, guessing, trying, experimenting, failing, succeeding and loving it. This recording process has been a blast and done all by us with the help of our talented friends. While we're already thinking ahead to how the second album will be different, we maintain a thirst for the stage, which remains the best platform for us to give what we have to offer. Los Angeles is home, but traveling is a passion and priority for us.
Our music is hard to define; we call it 'modern vaudeville'. It's part old school (Smothers Brothers, Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, the Muppet Show) and part modern flair (Flight of the Conchords, Lonely Island). Our album includes many (not all) of the colors we wear as a musical entity, including pop, hip hop, a cappella, opera, musical theatre and jazz. We like to push ourselves to explore places we've yet to go as well as those places that maybe appear scary or off limits.
Here's what some of our fans have said to describe Dakaboom:
"Dakaboom sounds like The Smothers Brothers had an unholy love child with The Muppets and abandoned it at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater with nothing but a pocketfull of Boyz II Men CDs." -m. solis
"its like a mix between Fergie and Jesus." -j. whitten
"Dakaboom is the comical internal dialogue of entertainment." -m. warren
THE DEEP STORY
This album as our lives: we "wake up" and we hear music; everything is music: "the rattle of the milkman down the stair." Music is universal and we've all heard it since birth. With us, it stuck. We had a special connection, as so many do, to this power that lies outside ourselves. Together and separately Ben and I have both experienced transcendent moments in music, at which point we are merely the vessels through which the spirit moves. The spirit of our collective humanity, our collective consciousness, that allows all of us to hear one sound, the one sound of music.
The album is very chronological with regard to our life in romance, showbiz and personal development culminating with a landmark statement about our unique and long-standing friendship and a song that sums up a personal philosophy we share about finding joy in all situations. The more we strive to understand each others' perspectives, the closer we will become, as people, as family, as an audience. On stage is where you will find Dakaboom, giving of themselves to bring others joy through creative, surprisingly thoughtful performance. Joy connects us, joy improves us, joy expands us.
